bikepower studio
Evaluate over 2 billion bike configurations to optimize your performance.
If you are a competitive cyclist aiming to improve your performance, you can achieve it with our bikepower study at UMANA.
The energy you apply to the pedals is transferred to the wheel through the drivetrain system (cranks, chainrings, cassettes, and wheels). Each of these elements affects performance and speed. Crank length, chainring oval profile, gear ratios, and wheel characteristics determine the power losses that occur while pedaling.
uBike analyzes more than 2 trillion different drivetrain configurations for your bike, calculating the performance you achieve with each of them. In this way, we find the combination that best matches your pedaling pattern. The result can be gains of up to 120 sec/h, depending on route characteristics (gradient, surface, altitude, temperature…).
a configuration tailored to your needs
The uBike platform allows us to accurately reproduce your position on any bicycle, adjusting the saddle, handlebar, pedals, and even the cranks.
Once you are in your usual position, we analyze your pedaling patterns through a progressive power output test. On one hand, we measure the force curves of the right and left legs on their respective pedals. On the other, we obtain your power curve at the crank axis.
uBike technology captures these curves throughout the pedaling cycle and at different cadences. Both curves are essential to calculate the optimal drivetrain configuration in a personalized way.
rim profile and tire width
The characteristics of the wheel you use influence your pedaling cadence and also affect aerodynamic and rolling losses.
The POWER algorithm of our uBike technology analyzes all possible wheel configurations compatible with your bike (weight, profile, and tire width), calculating the speed improvement you can achieve with each option under different gradients and surfaces.
In this way, we determine the wheel characteristics that maximize your performance for your specific objective (discipline, distance, gradient, weather conditions, type of surface…).
geometry and orientation
Using an appropriate oval chainring reduces dead spots in the pedaling cycle and thus decreases inertial losses.
uBike technology allows us to evaluate the compatibility of each oval chainring available on the market with your individual force output curves.
In this way, we calculate the speed gains provided by each option and identify the optimal oval chainring, which can offer performance improvements of up to 120 sec/h.
connecting rod length and gear ratios
The relationship between chainrings and cassettes determines your bike’s gearing, affecting both your pedaling cadence and the power delivered.
uBike technology allows us to calculate the chainring and cassette combination that best fits your power curve, improving your pedaling efficiency without altering your sensations. In this way, we can reduce your energy expenditure by up to 5%.
component specification
At the end of your session in our laboratory, you will receive a detailed report with all the results of the biomechanical study performed.
This report includes the wheel, chainring, cassette, and crank characteristics that optimize your performance. You will have everything you need to go to a store and order the components for your bike.
In addition, the report shows the speed gain achieved in sec/h of pedaling, as well as the improvement in pedaling efficiency (%) with your new setup.
"That's why cranks, chainrings, sprockets, and wheels can make you perform below your potential."
"which reduces your performance and can even pose a serious risk of injury in the medium term"
"because it reduces inertial losses during the dead phases of your pedaling"
"And it's necessary that your gear set is adapted to your cadence, power curve, and goals."
